Template Question Types

Understand the different response types available when building inspection templates and when to use each one.

Overview

Inspection templates support multiple question types to capture different kinds of information. Procedure templates only use Yes / No / N/A.

Question Types Reference

Text Field

What it does: Accepts open text responses

Best for:

• Descriptions and observations
• Detailed findings
• Notes and comments
• Any response that can't be predicted

Example questions:

• "Describe any issues observed"
• "Enter equipment serial number"
• "Note any additional comments"

Numeric Field

What it does: Accepts numbers only

Best for:

• Measurements (temperature, pressure, length)
• Counts and quantities
• Readings from gauges or instruments
• Any quantitative data

Example questions:

• "Enter current temperature (°C)"
• "Record pressure reading (PSI)"
• "Count items in stock"

Tip: Use conditions to trigger alerts when values exceed thresholds.

Single Selection

What it does: Choose one option from a list

Best for:

• Categorization (Good/Fair/Poor)
• Status selection
• Choosing one from predefined options
• Rating scales

Example questions:

• "Equipment condition" → Excellent / Good / Fair / Poor
• "Shift" → Morning / Afternoon / Night
• "Priority level" → Low / Medium / High

Multiple Selection

What it does: Choose multiple options from a list

Best for:

• Checklists where multiple items can apply
• Selecting all relevant categories
• Multi-condition verification

Example questions:

• "Which issues were found?" → Leak / Noise / Vibration / Odor
• "Select completed maintenance tasks" → Lubrication / Cleaning / Inspection / Adjustment

Yes / No / N/A

What it does: Three-option closed question

Best for:

• Quick verification questions
• Binary checks with an opt-out option
• Compliance confirmations

Example questions:

• "Is the emergency stop accessible?"
• "Are all safety guards in place?"
• "Was the area cleaned after work?"

N/A usage: When the question doesn't apply to the current situation.

Date and Time

What it does: Records a date, time, or both

Best for:

• Timestamping events
• Recording when something occurred
• Scheduling follow-ups
• Validating timing requirements

Example questions:

• "When was the last maintenance performed?"
• "Record inspection time"
• "Next calibration due date"

Multimedia

What it does: Allows photo and video uploads

Best for:

• Visual evidence
• Documenting conditions
• Before/after comparisons
• Supporting findings with images

Example questions:

• "Take a photo of the equipment"
• "Document the current condition"
• "Upload evidence of the issue"

Location

What it does: Select from pre-created locations in Zeltask

Best for:

• Site-specific inspections
• Geographic verification
• Area-based checks
• Multi-location operations

Example questions:

• "Select inspection location"
• "Where was the issue found?"

Prerequisite: Locations must be created in Zeltask first.

Asset

What it does: Select from registered assets in Zeltask

Best for:

• Equipment inspections
• Asset-specific checks
• Linking inspection results to equipment history
• Maintenance verification

Example questions:

• "Select the asset being inspected"
• "Which equipment is affected?"

Prerequisite: Assets must be registered in Zeltask first.

Instruction

What it does: Displays text without requiring a response

Best for:

• Guidance before complex questions
• Safety reminders
• Explaining procedures
• Providing context

Example uses:

• "IMPORTANT: Ensure machine is powered off before proceeding"
• "The following questions relate to the cooling system"
• "Refer to SOP-123 for detailed instructions"
