Edit an Asset
After creating an asset, you may need to update its information—correcting details, adding documentation, or changing assignments. This guide shows how to edit assets in Zeltask.
Before You Start
- You need appropriate permissions to edit assets
- Some fields may be restricted based on your role
Steps
Step 1: Find the asset
- Click Assets in the left sidebar
- Use search or filters to locate the asset
- Click on the asset card to open its detail view

Step 2: Open edit mode
- In the asset detail view, click Edit
- The asset form opens with current values populated

Step 3: Update the fields
Modify any fields that need to change:
- Name or description
- Manufacturer, model, or year
- Location
- Asset type
- Assigned team
- Linked vendors or inventory
- Documentation and media

Step 4: Save your changes
- Review the updated information
- Click Submit to save

Common Editing Scenarios
Updating location
If equipment has been moved:
- Open the asset for editing
- Click the Location dropdown
- Select the new location
- Submit the changes

Adding documentation
If you have new manuals or documents:
- Open the asset for editing
- Scroll to the Media section
- Click Add Media and upload files
- Submit the changes
Reassigning to a different team
If maintenance responsibility changes:
- Open the asset for editing
- Click the Assign Team dropdown
- Select the new team
- Submit the changes
Updating manufacturer information
If details were incomplete or incorrect:
- Open the asset for editing
- Update Manufacturer, Model, or Year fields
- Submit the changes
What You Cannot Edit
Some aspects may be restricted:

Editing vs. Using Comments
- Editing changes the asset's core information
- Comments add notes without changing the record
Use comments for observations, temporary notes, or communication. Use editing for permanent changes to asset data.
Tips
- Add a comment explaining significant changes for future reference
- Update the asset photo if the equipment's appearance has changed
- Keep documentation current by replacing outdated manuals
- Review the activity history before making changes to understand the asset's context
